Known as Meal Exchange's pioneer program, Skip a Meal has raised over $650,000 in donations since its creation in 1993. The program, which started at the University of Wilfred Laurier, is designed to facilitate student donations from leftover meal plan points to purchase food at wholesale prices for those who are unable to afford it in their community.

Skip a Meal encourages:

  • Transparency between students and their campus food service providers.

  • Discussions about campus food systems and access to healthy food.

  • The support of local communities in an effort to alleviate local food insecurity.

Over the years we've seen the program run on a number of campuses, however, this past month we saw a University collect one of the largest donation totals in one semester...

In a span of 3 days (January 28th - February 1st), the Meal Exchange Chapter at University of Guelph helped raise an incredible total of $8,191.24 which will go towards the fight against local hunger and food insecurity.

To everyone involved, congratulations on a job well done!
